2005 - 2010 The Next Five Years The 2005 Campus Plan Update built on the 1998 Campus Master Plan, a significant community effort that aligned the direction of planning and architecture with Emory’s historical and cultural base. The Update provided a plan responsive to the University’s future growth plans following the major building and planning surge between 1998 and 2004 that added over 2.1 million square feet of enclosed and heated facility space to the main Druid Hills campus. Since the 2005 Campus Plan Update several buildings have been built, roadways have been realigned and named; and continued planning for specialty precincts such as Freshman Housing and Dowman Drive are underway. The Planning Principals for the Emory University Campus combined with the Emory University Mission and Vision form the basis of continued planning, design and construction. In 1999 Emory became a member of the US Green Building Council and began an initiative to construct LEED certified buildings. As a leader of sustainability and environmental activities, the lessons Emory has been able to share on Green Building design and construction have advanced the knowledge base of both national and international campuses in their own efforts to embrace green building.
