This precinct explores the inclusion of another major parking deck of 1,300 cars built into the side of the hilltop immediately northwest of the recreation fields. This parking would be accessed from the existing Old Briarcliff Road, with a new road which would service the garage, while hugging the side of the hill and moving down along the eastern edge of the playing fields, ultimately connecting to the existing Peavine Creek Drive. In this way, not only is a new parking garage provided, but also a new entrance road to the university is established through a beautiful natural setting. Specifically, upon leaving Clifton and turning onto Old Briarcliff one would drive underneath the existing railroad bridge (which could be signed with a large Emory logo) and come up to Old Briarcliff road. This has the opportunity to establish a very attractive new landscape exponent for the campus, beginning with a new gate at Old Briarcliff Road connecting to a new entry into the campus through an attractive drive across Peavine Creek down through the playing fields and into Peavine Drive. From this point access could be achieved to the Peavine decks and/or to the new proposed parking deck at the site currently occupied by Facilities Management. |
