The Research Triangle |
This precinct explores the introduction of a series of new medical research buildings and proposed nursing school building in and around the area of the Rollins Building and Public Health. While there is a significant amount of square feet added, none of the buildings exceed the height of the Rollins Building. The Nursing building is proposed to be four stories above grade, with one story below, to achieve a gross square footage of 100,000 square feet. Medical Research I, to the south of the Rollins Building, is intended to be approximately 320,000 square feet. Medical Research II, at 200,000 square feet, completes this composition. While a significant amount of square footage is being added to this site, it is being done with the intention of creating a new network of open spaces. An extension of the existing green space in and around the dental school and Rollins is created by the removal of the trailers currently located between the Michael Street decks and the Rollins building. This network of open spaces is then associated directly with the Medical School, Public Health and Nursing, to create a network of quads specific to these schools. |
